The DRAIGON project announces the appointment of the independent Scientific and Ethics Advisory Committee (SEAC), a group comprised of international experts in Antimicrobial, Resistance (AMR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, medical ethics and health economics.
January 2025
The SEAC is currently composed of six experts in the DRAIGON topic fields from prestigious universities and research centers, and includes:
Dr. Aisha SAUER Team Leader Technologies for Health Unit, JRC. European Commission. Ispra. (Italy)
Dr. Rafael Caton Head of the Clinical Microbiology Department at the University Hospital Ramón y Cajal in Madrid (Spain)
Prof. Jacob Moran-Gilad, MD MPH FESCMID Director of Clinical Microbiology, Hadassah Medical Center (Israel)
Dr. Koen Pouwels Associate professor at the University of Oxford (UK)
Dr. Els Maeckelberghe (clinical ethics advisor) Associate Professor UMCG (Netherlands)
Martin Giesswein (AI ethics advisor) Member of the WU Executive Academy (Austria)
SEAC members have been selected and approved by the DRAIGON Steering Committee on the basis of pre-defined criteria to ensure that the composition of the board is appropriate to provide the guidance required to achieve DRAIGON goals.
This high-level board operates independently on critical aspects of the DRAIGON project, including shaping scientific strategy, prioritising project activities, offering guidance on ethical and regulatory considerations, adhering to European guidelines, and conflict resolution.
Annually, upon the request of the Steering Committee, the SEAC prepares a report including recommendations on the scientific advancement of the project.
In addition, Martin Giesswein and Dr. Els Maeckelberghe have been appointed also as independent ethics advisors for the DRAIGON project, with Giesswein focusing on AI ethics and Maeckelbergh in clinical ethics.
The DRAIGON consortium extends heartfelt appreciation to the SEAC members for their invaluable contributions. The SEAC will play an active advisory role throughout the project, and the DRAIGON consortium looks forward to the ongoing benefits of their expertise and engagement.
The SEAC will be attending the next DRAIGON annual meeting, planned for April 2025.
